The Parish Resilience Plan

How will our community cope with an emergency, whether through flooding, power failure, fire or other serious incident? How can we plan ahead to help ourselves?

What do we mean by emergency? Essentially it is any event or circumstance, happening with or without warning, that:

  • –           causes or threatens death or injury;
  • –           disruption to the community; or
  • –           damage to property or to the environment

How communities cope with emergencies depends on how well they prepare for,  respond to, and recover from them. So the Parish Council is developing a resilience plan, in association with the local community

To be resilient, we need to be aware of risks that may affect us and how vulnerable we are. We should use existing skills, knowledge and resources to prepare for and deal with the impacts of an emergency, and work together to complement the work of emergency responders before, during and after an emergency.

In developing a community resilience plan, not only do we need to identify what could cause an emergency, but we also need to find out what resources are available in the community.

We need the help of the local community. So, here is a link to an information collection form listing various skills and resources. If you can help out in any way, please complete the form and return it as indicated.
